The Lead Architect role exists within Product & Technology to provide leadership, motivation and technical experience to the Architecture Team in its role of enabling internal and external parties integrate all aspects of CarTrawler’s platform.

The Lead Architect works closely with Director of Engineering in developing an Architecture that addresses immediate, operational and strategic goals. Engaging a team of Solutions Architects and Principal Engineers to work with cross-functional teams and customers to create solutions to provide best-practice architectural design. The role also analyses and improves team productivity, creates a culture of high performance and advances our software design practices – with emphasis on architecture.
Works side-by-side with Senior Engineering Managers to ensure we deliver the highest standard of car rental technology for our customers, suppliers and travel partners.

The role is highly collaborative in nature, suiting an individual who is strong on interpersonal skills, has excellent communications and is a capable negotiator. Client-facing experience will offer a distinct advantage here.
 

Key Responsibilities;

  • Hands-on. Active technical contribution. Leading by example.
  • Running team meetings, tracking the team's performance and quality of work, removing roadblocks, eliminating interruptions.
  • Identifying, managing and determining robust, minimum-complexity, solutions for scale.
  • Providing deep-dive analytical support for existing and new solutions.

Leading Teams

  • Providing leadership, coaching and mentoring to Solutions Architects and Principal Engineers. Acting as a role model.
  • Owning and supporting preparation and delivery of technical presentations.
  • Owning the Architectural Decision Record (ADR) process for platform decisions.

Leading CarTrawler

  • Providing input into evolving Strategy, Architecture, Integration, and Automation.
  • Providing people leadership. Scheduling regular one-to-one conversations with Architecture Team members. Leading performance conversations. Participating in career planning and training plans. Setting achievable goals and reviewing progress.
  • Collaborating with commercial teams, Product Management and Portfolio Team to capture evolving architectural demands.
  • Providing conceptual architecture and technical design to internal and external parties
  • Driving architecture design workshops. Empowering the architecture team to drive workshops that work through complex, multi-stage solution designs.
  • Partnering with Product & Engineering Leadership on medium & long-term strategies.
  • Actively contributing to the success of prioritised projects and features

Key Skills/Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Business Information Systems or similar.
  • 10+ years' experience in Enterprise Architecture. Ideally, internet-scale architectures featuring JavaScript front-end, XML/JSON interchange and Java back-end
  • Experience leading or managing engineering or architecture teams. With excellent people and communication skills, approachable and enjoys enabling others deliver at their best.
  • Experience leading workshops, gathering requirements and presenting to senior leadership.
  • Experience designing for High Availability (HA) and High Performance.
  • Working knowledge of Gang-of-Four and Enterprise Patterns. Client and server-side
  • Working knowledge of cloud: Amazon Web Services, Snowflake, Openstack or Heroku.
  • Awareness of Internet Security practices, including the recommendations of OWASP.
  • Hands-on in Java or JavaScript discipline. Used to supporting Architecture Teams delivering Proof-of-Concepts and Blueprints for implementation.
